Western Sports Roundup recaps the Breeders’ Cup

The 2020 Breeders’ Cup took place over the weekend at Keeneleand Race Track in Kentucky.

Authentic, the 2020 Kentucky Derby winner, helped deliver a trainer Bob Baffert his 17th Breeders’ Cup. Authentic notched a wire-to-wire win in the horse’s last career race.

“Ultimately we just felt there wasn’t a lot more to accomplish for a Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, so we have made the decision to retire Authentic to stand along his champion sire, Into Mischief,” Baffert said.

Another storyline out of the Breeders’ Cup was Monomoy Girl winning the Longines Distaff, a 1 1/8 mile race featuring the best female dirt horses in the world. Monomoy Girl finished with a time 1:47.84, just off the local record. The Filly won the race as a 3-year-old in 2018 and spent 18 months on the injured list before returning to win again in 2020.
