The Veater Ranch in Coarsegold, California held a bronc riding invitational over the weekend to benefit the Fresno State rodeo team.
The event, which had a total purse of $20,000, was won by Wade Sundell, who had an 88-point rider in the one-header.
Lefty Holman, a California native, was among those who helped put the event together. He, his father and Flying U provided the stock, and Holman was also responsible for recruiting several of the cowboys who competed.
“It worked out perfect,” he said. “He (George Veater) took it all himself and made it so special for us cowboys. Especially it being the COVID year, California didn’t have the rodeos we wanted so they made it special for us.”
Holman said events like this are big for expanding saddle bronc in California.
Dawson Hay, Rusty Wright, Jake Finlay and Shorty Garrett were among those in attendance.
