On the final day of the ProRodeo Season, September 30, the top 20 bareback riders and top 20 saddle bronc riders in the PRCA World Standings gathered at the Cervi Brothers Ranch in Stoneham, Colorado, to face off one last time in hopes of qualifying for the NFR.
The top 4 in long round advanced on to the championship round, and among the best in the bareback riding were Richmond Champion, who took round 1 with an 89-point ride, and Tim O’Connell, who placed fourth with an 86.5.
In the short-go both Champion and O’Connell went 90.5 to split the win and become co-champions of the first ever Gold Buckle Knockout.
Champion and O’Connell join Western Sports Round-Up to share their thoughts on the all new event, look back at their rides, and talk about the upcoming NFR in Texas.
