With rodeo back up and going, athletes are focused on the race to the National Finals, hoping to earn/keep a spot in the top 15 and get one of the coveted NFR back numbers. This past weekend was the first we’ve seen some major action since the shutdown with rodeos being held across the country. It also resulted in some substantial payouts, and some movement in the PRCA | RAM World Standings.
Events that made a major difference for certain cowboys and cowgirls this past weekend included the rodeos in Coleman, Texas; Woodward, Oklahoma; Eagle Mountain, Utah; and the Mesquite Championship Rodeo held each weekend in Mesquite, Texas.
Among the week’s top earners are steer wrestlers Tanner Brunner, who’s pocketed about $6,000 in last week, winning the opening night in Mesquite and splitting first in Woodward; and Bridger Anderson, who won in Mesquite the following weekend and also split third and fourth in Woodward for a total of $3,500. Brunner now sits at No. 8 and Anderson at No. 9 in the standings.
In the bull riding, Daylon Swearingen had two big wins this weekend that advanced him from 50 to 38 in the standings, and Tyler Bingham, who split first and second in Woodward, earned just under $4,000. He currently sits at No. 9 while brother Tim Bingham is at No. 35. Sage Kimzey still holds top spot, but not with as comfortable a lead as he’s used to at this point in the year. Currently the 6X World Champion is just shy of $7,000 ahead of No. 2 bull rider Dustin Boquet.
Bareback rider Orin Larsen won a pair of rodeos over the weekend as well, in Coleman and Eagle Mountain, taking about $3,000 this weekend. After his wins this weekend, the 2019 Reserve Grand Champion currently sits at 21 in the standings.
