Scheduled to be held May 13-16, the 72nd annual Redding Rodeo has officially been canceled due to concerns for public health and safety due to the coronavirus.
The Redding Rodeo Association announced their decision Monday in a press release that stated:
Our decision was based on the health and welfare of our community, contestants, and our many volunteers. For those that have already purchased their tickets, we will announce ticket transfers for next year’s rodeo or refund options at a later date.
We urge you to follow the preventive and social distancing measures outlined by our public health officials. Our hearts go out to all those now suffering from the virus and to the families who have lost loved ones. We are also deeply grateful to those working on the front lines and risking their own health and safety to save others and to provide important essential services. …
The Redding Rodeo is a long-standing tradition where we look forward to coming together as friends, neighbors and family to enjoy rodeo. We tip our hats and extend our appreciation to the community, our fans, and sponsors who have stuck with us and help to support the numerous charities and organizations that benefit from the annual Redding Rodeo. We couldn’t do any of this without each and every one of you. We will be back in 2021, stronger and more resilient than ever.
This is one of many rodeo cancellations in the past weeks, but while many are looking ahead to 2021, Cheyenne is still optimistic that the Cheyenne Frontier Days will still kick off on July 17. “It’s going to take a lot to take the Daddy of ‘em All down,” said CFD president and CEO Tom Hirsig.
