COLORADO—The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy has temporarily closed to protect their staff and the public from the spread of COVID-19.

Kent Sturman, the Director of the Hall of Fame said, “Our numbers have dropped off significantly, people aren’t traveling and people here, in Colorado, have been instructed to stay home and shelter in place. So, we decided that it’s best to close for a few days.”

The Hall announced on Tuesday afternoon that it would be locking its doors until its safe for them to reopen. In the days leading up to the closure, the hall was operating with normal business hours, but only allowing 10 guests in the museum at a time.

According to the Denver Post, the number of individuals infected in Colorado has risen to 720, bringing the state’s death toll to 9 individuals.

The four staff members at the hall will continue working on site. “We have a lot of work that doesn’t require us to open the doors. We will be working on digitizing media, and working through exhibits. It’ll be a time and opportunity to do things that you kind of save for a rainy day, and guess that rainy day is today,” said Sturman.

The Hall is in daily contact with the El Paso County Colorado Health Department and will continue to make decisions going forward with the community’s health in mind.
