The sixth of seven competition brackets came to a finish at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Sunday afternoon, determining a new set of contestants who will move on to the semi-finals.
Stand outs in the bracket included tie-down roper Matt Shiozawa of Chubbock, Idaho; steer wrestler Jacob Edler of State Center, Iowa; and bull rider Trevor Kastner of Raff, Oklahoma.
Kastner was the big money earner in Bracket 6, not only winning both rounds but also adding to his total when other bull riders failed to put up scores. Kastner was one of three successful riders on Saturday night, then one of two on Sunday (when he scored 89 on United Pro Rodeo’s Black Night), collecting $4,327.
Shiozawa and Edler also won both rounds of in their events, winning $3,520 each.
Riding Matt Reeve’s beloved horse Rattle, Edler put up a time of just 3.9 seconds on Sunday. It was the fastest steer wrestling time of the rodeo so far and just one-tenth of a second faster than his winning time on Saturday night.
Consistency was also key for Shiozawa in the tie-down roping. He stopped the clock in 7.2 and 7.3 seconds in the two rounds and is moving on to the semi-finals.
