Sherry Combs Johnson Settles into ProRodeo Hall of Fame Alongside Her Beloved Horse, Red

Sherry Combs Johnson has now gone down in rodeo history alongside her world champion equine partner, Star Plaudit, and her sister Florence Youree.

Born in Oklahoma in 1938, Johnson grew up to be a force within the Girls Rodeo Association. But first, she dominated in high school rodeo where she won the all-around, barrel racing and breakaway roping titled in 1955.

She made her first National Finals Rodeo appearance 1959 in Clayton, New Mexico at the GRA Finals and continued to shine over four decades. Her final NFR would come in 1991, under the bright lights of Thomas and Mack in Las Vegas. She would ride six horses through out these four decades and train multiple others that wound up at the NFR as well.

Of all her accomplishments in the arena, one in particular stands out: her 1962 World Championship that came aboard her beloved Star Plaudit, or better known to Johnson as Red. Red is a Hall of Famer himself with a career that will likely never be duplicated.

Johnson is no stranger to inductions as she was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 2005 and before that, she was the Coca-Cola woman of the Year in 1997. Johnson can now add one more accomplishment to her already spectacular story.
