Shad Mayfield Has Taken His Success and Turned 18 Acres Into a Tie-Down Roper’s Dream

At just 22 years old three-time NFR qualifier Shad Mayfield has made many huge accomplishments not only in his career but with what he has done with all of his success.

Mayfield built his very own home in Lipan, Texas after winning a $600,000 check at The American in 2020.

“I was looking for home for about a year and I started out looking for a place that was already setup, but I couldn’t find anything right for me,” he said.

After not being able find a property that fit Mayfield’s lifestyle, his realtor found a piece of land for the cowboy to build his perfect home on 18 acres.

“I looked at and I said ‘yeah I gotta have it,’” he said.

Mayfield was able to add elements such as a tack room, roping arena and barn in close walking distance to his home to ensure easy access to his horses and a convenient place to practice.

Mayfield welcomes fellow rodeo athletes and even built horse pens specifically for those passing through.

“I remember when I was coming to Texas, I had great friends that would let me stay (with them) when I had nothing,” he said. “So I thought I’d repay the favor for other people.”

The next additions to the property will be arena lights. Currently, Mayfield practices in the morning, but he grew up roping at night with his dad and is admittedly not a morning person.

Mayfield is currently sitting at No. 1 in the World Standings and is on track to qualify for his fourth NFR.
