Resistol Rookie Steer Wrestling Standings Update: Gus Franzen Takes Lead

Last month it was Adam Musil atop the Resistol Rookie of the Year Steer Wrestling Standings, now it is Gus Franzen who leads the rookie class. Franzen is sitting just under $7,000 ahead of Musil for the title.

1. Gus Franzen, $22,582

Franzen is coming off a nice weekend where he earned $1,300 at the Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo thanks to a second-place finish after a 5.5-second run. It was Franzen’s second top-two finish of the week as he finished second at the West of the Pecos Rodeo after a 4.8-second run in round two. His biggest payday this season came at the San Angelo Rodeo where he placed second in round two after a 3.8-second run and earned just under $3,800.

2. Adam Musil, $15,695

It has been a rough stretch for Musil who has failed to cash a check in his last 16 runs.

3. Ryan Nettle, $14,008

Of all of the rookie Steer Wrestlers, it was Nettle who had the best showing at Cowboy Christmas. It began at the St. Paul Rodeo where Nettle placed second in round two after a 3.8-second run. That run earned him over $2,800. He followed that up with a third-place finish at the Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo which earned him another $1,033. Finally, Nettle ended his weekend with a sixth-place finish at the Livingston Roundup Rodeo, earning another $1,764.

4. Kyler Dick, $10,534

Dick cashed two checks over Cowboy Christmas, the first coming at the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo and the second at the Western Stampede. In total, the checks combined for $1,200 towards his standings.

5. Joshua Hefner, $10,439

Hefner has not appeared at a rodeo since his second-place finish at the Rodeo of the Ozarks in late June where he won over $3,700.
