It is going to be a tight race throughout the Top 15 in Team Roping on both the Header and Heeler sides. Looking at the Header side, we have a new No. 1 man in the World as Dustin Egusquiza overtook Nelson Wyatt for the top spot. Egusquiza has made over $123,000 on the season and is looking for his first-career Gold Buckle.
Here is a look at some of the top athletes and how their seasons have shaken out thus far.
No. 1 Dustin Egusquiza, $123,093
Egusquiza was able to overtake the lead thanks to a great showing in the beginning of August. He earned over $6,000 in Dodge City, more than $2,500 at Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo, and added another $3,000 after a win at the Larimer County Fair and Rodeo. A week ago Egusquiza was over $6,000 behind Nelson Wyatt for the lead in the World Standings, now, he is $5,000 ahead.
No. 9 Tyler Wade, $76,281
Wade made the biggest jump of any Header over the last week, jumping nine spots from No. 18 in the standings to No. 9. The biggest reason was a stretch of runs where he cashed eight straight checks of $1,200 or more, five of those being for more than $3,000. Wade’s biggest win came at the Dodge City Round Up where he placed first in two rounds, including the finals, and placed fourth in the average. In total, at the rodeo, he won over $8,000.
No. 11 Marcus Theriot, $70,744
Theriot worked his way off the bubble, jumping from No. 15 to No. 11 thanks to a strong showing at three separate rodeos. His first check of the week came at Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo where he placed sixth and earned just under $1,800. Theriot was part of the winning team at the XIT Rodeo with a 5.0-second run that won him nearly $3,000. Finally, Theriot placed sixth at the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo for another $1,900.
