NRCHA Open Stakes Leader Nick Dowers Joins WSR

The NRCHA Stallion Stakes had a record-setting number of entries this year, and the man in the lead, Nick Dowers, joined WSR to talk about the competition thus far.

Dowers said, “The numbers are big, there are a lot of horses here. It goes to show the industry is booming and is on an uptick.”

Dowers had the high score in both the herd work and the reining class with 224 points in each.

“I was just happy to get my horse shown, he has always been a good herd horse. He works cows really well. I was able to cut three cows that really fit him and his abilities. I was pretty tickled to have the run that I did.”

There is still a lot of work for Dowers and his horse ahead.

“We are still in the prelims so I need to be sure I don’t let off the throttle too much, but I don’t have to have a huge run I just need to make a nice run and make it to the finals and start this process all over again.”
