Meet the 2020 NFR Athletes - Haven Meged
When talking about young tie-down ropers, many people go straight to Shad Mayfield, but the less talked about Haven Meged has had as impressive a start to a career as possible. Haven won his first world title last year at his first ever NFR. He was just 21 years old when he won the Gold Buckle, and his success continued in 2020.
Meged currently sits in third place in the tie-down roping world standings with earnings of more than $68,000.
His 2020 season was a streaky one, to say the least. In January he won more than $3,500 at the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals but then failed to cash a check of more than $1,00 until the Newton Rodeo Days in June.
Meged got hot in late July beginning with the Deadwood Days of ’76 Rodeo where he earned nearly $3,000. He would follow it up with a strong showing at the Dodge City Roundup where he cashed in for close to $3,000 once more.
Meged’s biggest payday of the year came at the Fallon County Fair and Rodeo where a second-place finish earned him $4,865 after stopping the clock at 7.8 seconds.
In August, Meged performed well in Rapid City, earning $2,500 at the Range Days Rodeo in Rapid City, South Dakota.

It will take an unprecedented run at the NFR in Arlington to catch Shad Mayfield, but Haven has the talent and quick hands to be the best in the world on any given night. Watch out for him to make some major noise come December and he could put a charge into the Arlington crowd with his runs.
