The 2015 and 2018 World Champion is back at it in 2020. Caleb Smidt has qualified for his seventh NFR in the 8th position in the world. Smidt earned $55,323 on the year.

Although he finished number eight in the world, Smidt may consider 2020 a down year, securing just two wins.

One of his biggest weekends was back in January at the San Angelo Rodeo. Smidt placed third in the first round, which earned him $3,301, and placed fourth in the finals, bringing his total for the rodeo to $4,498.

In July his next big check would come in the form of $2,862 after a 7.7-second ride would secure a third-place finish at the Killdeer Mountain Roundup PRCA Rodeo.

One of Smidt’s wins came at the Lion’s Dixie Roundup where he went 8.4 seconds and earned a $2,605 check.

Smidt kept that momentum going at the Pro Tour Finale where he would win the second round with a 7.7-second run. That would be the only round he would cash a check in at the Finale.

Smidt’s 2020 season would end nicely with a win at the Roping Fiesta in San Angelo, Texas. Smidt would go 9.5 seconds to earn the win and round out his regular season.

Smidt is unlikely to add another Gold Buckle to his resume, but he is within striking distance of Tuf Cooper, who sits in second place and just $12,000 ahead of Smidt.
