Martha Josey Honors Joyce Barney and Her Impact in Creating the Famous Josey Jr. World Finals

A friendship that continues to inspire the next generation

Martha Josey has made her mark in the barrel racing industry and continues to inspire youth competitors. The famous talent honors the memory of Joyce Barney and her contribution in creating the famous Josey Jr. World Barrel Race.

“Joyce loved the kids. She’s smiling right now,” Josey said as she reflects on the tremendous success of their event over the years.

The two met when Barney attended one of Josey’s clinics in 1974. Although Barney was not in attendance for herself but for her son, Jeb Barney. Today, you can find him as a roping instructor at the Josey Ranch.

Josey continues to exemplify what it means to be a true cowgirl by extending her hand to the Western community. She leaves a lasting impression on those she encounters and has since created another successful event for her former students, the Josey Reunion Barrel Race.

Forty-four years later, she continues to make a large impact on the future stars of the barrel racing industry, thus, carrying-on Barney’s legacy.
