It was a breakaway roping for the rodeo history books on Saturday night as San Antonio crowned a champion in the fastest event in rodeo for the first time.
Martha Angelone stopped the clock at 2.1 seconds in the Finals to win the round by one tenth of a second and claim the inaugural title.
“This is awesome, I am so thankful for San Antonio adding the breakaway, this is such a cool feeling,” Angelone said. “With the tournament style, you kind of got to go at all of them and that’s what I like to do the most.”
Angelone won more than $12,000 at the event.
“I needed that bad,” she said with a laugh.
