Las Vegas Events Announces 2026 Las Vegas NFR Icons

Bob Tallman Legends Part 4

Las Vegas Events announced that two longtime figures in professional rodeo, eight-time world champion Fred Whitfield and legendary announcer Bob Tallman, will be honored as 2026 Vegas NFR Icons during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas.

The Wrangler NFR is scheduled for Dec. 3-12 at the historic Thomas & Mack Center. Whitfield will be recognized during the Dec. 4 performance, while Tallman will be honored Dec. 5. Each ceremony will include the presentation of a commemorative bronze statue and the unveiling of a banner in the arena rafters.

“The next group of Vegas NFR Icons are represented by one of the great rodeo champions in history in Fred Whitfield and Bob Tallman, one of the longest-tenured and accomplished rodeo announcers,” Las Vegas Events President Tim Keener said in a statement.

Whitfield, a native of Cypress, Texas, became one of the most accomplished cowboys in PRCA history. He won eight world titles, including seven in tie-down roping and one all-around championship. Whitfield also became the first African American cowboy to win a PRCA all-around title and only the second to capture a world title.

Known for his clutch performances, Whitfield set a Wrangler NFR record in 1997 with an aggregate time of 84.0 seconds in tie-down roping. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2004.

Tallman, raised in a northern Nevada ranching community, has served as one of rodeo’s most recognizable voices for more than 50 years. A 12-time PRCA Announcer of the Year, Tallman has announced the NFR numerous times and earned inductions into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Known as the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world, the Wrangler NFR attracts the top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding to compete for a share of the increased purse and the coveted PRCA Gold Buckle. In 2025, the event had a total attendance of 175,846 over the ten rounds of competition at the Thomas & Mack Center and has sold out 379 consecutive performances in Las Vegas.

Additional Vegas NFR Icon events, including appearances and honoree schedule updates, will be announced throughout the remainder of 2026.
