Kade Sonnier’s Top of the Pen Draw Gets Top of the Round Score in San Antonio

Sonnier matched up with Banger Main to help him advance to the Semifinals in San Antonio for the second straight year

Kade Sonnier has consistently done his job so far this season and in San Antonio, it was no different. He picked up two fourth-place checks in the first two go-rounds of Bracket 1 before a win came his way in Round 3.

A big 87-point ride on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Banger Main was all Sonnier needed.

“It’s a ton of fun, actually, when I told my dad what I had, my dad was like ‘oh, I’ve been on that in the bronc riding’ and I was like oh man, that could’ve been a while ago.’ But it’s only been six years so it’s not that bad. She hangs in the air, she kicks, not late but right as you’re setting your feet and gives you a little extra snap and helps you feel strong and, I mean, you can’t ask for anything better,” Sonnier said.

A tie for the No. 2 and 3 man moving on came with Bronc Marriott and Luke Thrash’s names. Both young guns cashed in $3,750 after each winning a round and finishing third in another.

Standout rookie Weston Timbermann was the fourth bareback rider from Bracket 1 to cinch his place in the Semifinals. It came after he split the win in Round 2 and finished fourth in Round 3. He claimed $3,250 to move on.

San Antonio has two rounds of Semifinals and you can look for Sonnier, Marriott, Thrash and Timbermann on Feb. 22-23.
