Gooding Pro Rodeo: Format, Preview, and How to Watch

The 98th Gooding Rodeo begins Aug. 17 and features the best rodeo athletes in the world competing for their share of over $200,000.

The Gooding Pro Rodeo began 98 years ago on the Calvary Parade Grounds as a way to celebrate a successful harvest.

Here is a look at what you can expect when you tune into the Cowboy Channel and the Cowboy Channel+ App Thursday-Saturday at 10 PM ET to watch all the action from Gooding.

FORMAT

Gooding has a simple format that is uniform across all events. The best score or fastest time is crowned your champion.

Last year, it took between 88 and 89.5 points to win a roughstock event.The winning time in Barrel Racing came from Michelle Darling who went 16.88 seconds. In tie-down roping, Matt Shiozawa won with a 7.6-second run. Tanner Tomlinson and Patrick Smith got one of their many wins in Gooding in 2022 with a 4.0-second run. Finally, in steer wrestling, it was Stan Branco who got the win with a 3.2-second run.

Performance 1 (August 17)

You won’t want to be late to the broadcast with bareback riding leading things off. You can watch Kaycee Feild, 2022 World Champ Jess Pope, Kade Sonnier, Cole Franks and more compete on night one in Gooding.

In barrel racing, Hailey Kinsel highlights a field that features Ivy Saebens, Leslie Smalygo, and more.

It’ll be a busy day in Bull Riding with 19 Bull Riders slated to ride. You can watch Sage and Trey Kimzey, Tristen Hutchings, Josh Frost, JB Mauney (pending injury news), T Parker, Creek Young, and several more.

Performance 2 (August 18)

The World No. 1 Bareback Rider takes center stage on Friday in Gooding. Keenan Hayes looks to continue his incredible rookie season as he charges to Vegas in the No. 1 spot. He will be competing against Dean Thompson, Kade Berry, Richmond Champion, Orin Larsen and more.

Performance 3 (August 19)

It will be an exciting final day in the saddle bronc ridin at the Gooding Pro Rodeo with 2022 World Champion Zeke Thurston competing with Dawson and Logan Hay, Q McWhorter, Leon Fountain, Wyatt Casper, and others.
