It was a great night of bareback riding in Weatherford on Wednesday night and no one was better than Garrett Shadbolt.
The Nebraska cowboy rode Rafter H’s Pony Soldier for 89 points. The last time he was on that horse was in 2019 in Albuquerque where he was “roughed up pretty good,” so he admitted he was a little nervous before Wednesday’s ride.
“Just gassed it and I knew a little more about what to expect,” he said. “It makes me feel good, it makes me feel like improving on my riding too, so that’s what counts. I think it’s a good showing for the first perf.”
Shadbolt finished No. 21 in the PRCA World Standings last year and is currently No. 7 in 2021.
“This year has been phenomenal, it’s just been a really good start you know,” he said. “My No. 1 goal is always to follow God and Jesus.....But my No. 2 goal right now is making the Finals this year and I’d really like to finish in the Top 10.”
