Fort Worth Bracket 7: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN

All seven brackets are now complete at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Thursday and Friday’s Semifinals are set along with Wednesday’s Wild Card.

The biggest star of the bracket was barrel racer Wenda Johnson. The Oklahoma cowgirl broke the arena record with a time of 16.17 seconds on Monday and then followed it up with a 16.21 on Tuesday, the second-fastest time ever in Dickies Arena.

“Mac is very fast, but he does it so flawlessly and smooth that he doesn’t feel like he is running out from under me,” she said after her record-breaking run. “I’m grateful to get to ride these amazing horses and to get to go fast, which is what I really do love to do.”

The bareback riding in Bracket 7 was all about the Canadians. Dantan Bertsch won Round 1 and Clint Laye won Round 2. Both of them are advancing. The other roughstock winners from the bracket were Mitch Pollock in saddle bronc riding and seven-time World Champion Sage Kimzey in bull riding.

“Two in a row, got ‘em knocked out,” Kimzey said Tuesday night.

The other timed events were won by Garrett Rogers/Justin in team roping, Marty Yates in tie-down roping, Justin Shaffer in steer wrestling and Bailey Gubert in breakaway roping.
