Dustin Boquet said he has always been good at getting onto the next one and he needed to be Tuesday night in Round Six.
Not only was he 0-for-5 at the Wrangler NFR, but because of re-ride opportunities, he had to get on three bulls in about 15 minutes in the sixth round. On the last one, he cashed in with an 89.5-point ride on Lonesome You.
BOQUET’S RIDE
“I knew what I was up against and I knew I could win first on that sucker, too, and it all worked out. I just kept my mind clear and never really had time to think about it,” he said. “Oh, yeah, my adrenaline is surely pumping. I was worn out. I’m not the type of guy to work out, I just hunt and fish, that’s all I do – and ride bulls.”
Outside of Boquet, the Gold Buckle race stayed interesting in the bull riding.
No. 1 Ky Hamilton bucked off, dropping him out of the No. 1 spot in the world and the No. 1 spot in the average. Colten Fritzlan and Ty Wallace both made the whistle again, putting them No. 1 and 2 respectively in the average.
Fritzlan is the only cowboy who is 5-for-6 and has accumulated 428.5 points. Wallace is 355 on four head and Hamilton is 347 on four.
Wallace is currently sitting No. 1 in the world with $178,329. Hamilton is about $15,000 behind him and Fritzlan is about $27,000 back.
