Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo 2021: Highlights, recap and payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN

The Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah concluded on Saturday and it featured some well-known winners who are having terrific seasons.

World No. 1 Tilden Hooper won the bareback riding for his 88-point ride atop Powder River Rodeo’s 99 Problems. The win earned Hooper more than $3,000 as he and Tim O’Connell continue to go back and forth for the top spot in PRCA World Standings.

“Drawing good horses is a big part of it, I’m healthy right now, things are good at home and I’m just having fun,” Hooper said.

Another World No. 1 who was No. 1 in Vernal was Sage Kimzey. The six-time World Champion shared the title with Parker McCown as both men were 90.5 points.

“He’s the one you want to draw, so I was really happy,” Kimzey said of Powder River’s Audacious. “It was good to capitalize on him.”

The timed events had some winners who are at the top of their game as well. Tuf Cooper, the World No. 1 in the tie-down roping, was 7.5 seconds in slack to win the rodeo and Dustin Egusquiza/Travis Graves split the win with Clay Smith/Jade Corkill.

Egusquiza is the No. 1 header in the world, Smith is the No. 3 header in the world and Graves and Corkill are both in the Top 5 on the heel side.
