Team ropers Clay Smith and Jake Long are living out one of the greatest comebacks in professional rodeo. They captured the win in Ellensburg with a total time of 14.9 on three head.
Smith and Long split the win in Round 1 with a 4.6 while a 4.9 placed them 11th in Round 2. They came back in the Short Round to be a 5.4 and split the round but win the average.
After breaking his leg in June, Smith’s determination to continue on the rodeo trail does not go unnoticed.
“I give glory to God for letting me have the opportunity, I’m really thankful and my partner has roped amazing and been there with me the entire time, family is supporting me, I’ve had a lot of help and so I thank God for the opportunity,” Smith said.
This is a win that Long has been wanting for a long time and it came during an unforgettable season.
Both Smith and Long are sitting inside the Top 15 and there is one month left in this season for the dynamic duo to go to work.
