Chancey Williams Talks Bronc Riding, New Music and Cheyenne Frontier Days

These days you know Chancey Williams as a country music artist but the Wyoming native was a saddle bronc rider before he ever thought about taking the stage.

In the early 2000’s, Williams set the arena record in the Rookie Saddle Bronc Riding at Cheyenne Frontier Days with an 82-point ride in the Short Go. He kept the family tradition going as his father also competing in the Rookie Bronc Riding in 1971 when he walked away the Champion.

It didn’t stop there, when Williams’ music career began, he would play the beer tents and in between you could find him picking up.

“I’d go out and ride with the pickup men a little bit. I used to pick up back in college and stuff. So Dwayne Gilbert and the guys, I’d come out and haze a little bit and try to get in the way but it’s always fun. It’s the best seat in the house out there on a pickup horse watching the rodeo,” Williams said.

These days, Williams has been making big moves in country music. A new single releasing on July 28 is a love strong that he wrote with Jody Stephens. The writing side of things has gone up for Williams, 11 of the 12 songs on his last album, One of Those Days, he took part in writing.

Adding to his accomplishments, Williams is the spokesperson for Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo initiative anti-bullying campaign and his song “The World Needs More Cowboys” is also a part of the campaign.

Williams has a full plate but somehow finds a way to get it all done.
