Best of First 50 Days: Kade Bruno and Zeke Thurston’s Battle for a Calgary Bronze

The saddle bronc ride off in the Final 4 of the Calgary Stampede was rank.

On Championship Sunday in Calgary, the stakes were high but the rides were higher. After a 91 advanced Zeke Thurston to the Four-Man, an 88 did the same for Kade Bruno. In that Four-Man, a tie at 92 points led to a Showdown Round.

Bruno would be 92 yet again in the Showdown Round aboard Northcott and Yule’s Mary Lou while Thurston would fall just short. A 90.5-point ride in Calgary Stampede’s Yesterday’s Delivery left him out of the Winner’s Circle.

This was a controversial call as a mix up caused Thurston to take the stage as the Champion before it was corrected and Bruno took the stage later to accept the iconic Calgary Stampede Bronze and the $50,000 prize.

It is the final performance before the Short Go in Pendelton, Oregon.
