Barrel racing in 2023 has seen World Champions continue to thrive while a few cowgirls returned to the arena in a big way. Jackie Ganter and Sarah Rose Waguespack have tasted success while the horsepower throughout the Texas Swing has been something you can’t deny.
No. 1 Jordon Briggs, $87,894
With only six rodeos to her name this year, World Champion Briggs and her standout horse Rollo have continued to show how they earned that Gold Buckle. A huge win came Briggs’ way at RodeoHouston where she laid down a smoking fast 14. 93 second run to win it. That win alone added $65,000 to her earnings. From there, she went on to make it to the Final Round of Rodeo Austin where she hit a barrel to take her out of the running.
No. 8 Jessica Routier, $31,866
Four-time National Finals barrel racer, Routier, also went on to the RodeoHouston and Rodeo Austin Final Rounds. On her palomino mare, Missy, Routier has been as consistent as they come over the Texas Swing. In Houston, she added almost $20,000 to her season earnings before she went on to Austin where she found her stride in the Semifinals and eventually ended up at the pay window after the Finals.
No. 18 Amanda Welsh, $21,307
After a tough year in 2022, Welsh and her main mount Fire Fly are on the comeback trail. The NFR duo got their first win of the season at Rodeo Austin. They had success in Tucson in February but it was in Austin where they flew to victory that would be worth almost $15,000. It was an emotional win for Welsh and gave her a wave of momentum going into San Angelo Rodeo where she split a tie for seventh that added to her season earnings yet again.
