WPRA Barrel Racing Standings Update, May 3: The Veterans Secure their Positions in the Top 5

It’s a veteran’s game in the WPRA Barrel Racing World Standings as household names such as Wenda Johnson, Kassie Mowry and Lisa Lockhart sit inside the Top 5.

With the conclusion of the Texas Swing, these cowgirls are gearing up for the Summer Run.

Take a look at the Top 20 barrel racer in the World.

1. Wenda Johnson, $72,599

Wenda Johnson has soared to the top of the WPRA Barrel Racing World Standings, securing the No. 1 position with earnings totaling $72,599. Her latest victory in Clovis, California, where she sealed the win, enhancing her earnings by a noteworthy $12,753. Furthermore, Johnson secured a second-place finish at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo in Logandale, contributing an additional $6,762 to her winnings. In the first half of the season Johnson made her way through the Texas Swing placing in multiple rodeos including the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Rodeo Austin and Fort Worth, as well as claiming the championship title at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. Johnson is on her way to securing her fifth National Finals Rodeo qualification.

2. Leslie Smalygo, $69,550

Leslie Smalygo clinched the prestigious RodeoHouston Title, catapulting herself into the spotlight early in the season. Her performance has positioned her at an impressive No. 2 in the World Standings, with total earnings of $69,550. During the Championship Shootout Round, Smalygo stopped the clock at an impressive 14.35 seconds, securing the coveted No. 1 spot. This achievement earned her a substantial check totaling $58,000, constituting a significant portion of her current earnings.

3. Kassie Mowry, $55,659

Kassie Mowry’s consistency through the Texas Swing paid off as she secured back-to-back wins at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo , picking up her biggest check of the season with $22,500 in earned. Mowry’s success continued as she finished inside the Top 3 in all three rounds of Rodeo Austin, bringing her aggregate time to 45.76 as she secured the championship title, adding a notable $15,545 to her earnings. With just seven rodeos attention thus far, Mowry sits No. 3 in the WPRA Standings with $55,659 in total earnings.

4. Ashley Castleberry, $52,556

Ashley Castleberry kicked her season off with a bang, securing a substantial check for over$10,000 at the Texas Circuit Finals in October. Since then, she has maintained an impressive momentum, currently holding the No. 4 position in the WPRA World Standings. Castleberry’s success continued with a notable third-place finish at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, clocking in at an impressive 13.82 seconds. Her most recent triumph occurred in Clovis, California, where she secured the third spot on the leaderboard, bringing her total earnings to an impressive $52,556.

5. Lisa Lockhart, $51,616

Lisa Lockhart added over $7,500 to her earnings early in the season at the Badland Circuit Finals to set herself up for the Winter Run. Lockhart claimed the No. 6 spot at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Finals only to pick up the pace at RodeoHouston where she collected $27,500 in earnings, claiming second-place in the Championship Shootout Round. Lockhart rounds out the Top 5 in the WPRA World Standings with $51,616 in total earnings.

6. Abby Phillips, $51,124

No. 6 cowgirls Abby Phillips has collected multiple first-place checks this season thus far including the Wilderness Circuit Finals Rodeo, Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Ellis County Stock Show and Rodeo. Phillips picked up a notable check at the Red-Bluff Roundup as she secured second-place along with a check for just over $8,000, bringing her total earnings to $51,124.

7. Sara Winkelman, $46,425

Sara Winkelman capitalized on the first rodeo of the Texas Swing as she secured the title at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. A 16.40-second run locked Winkelman in the top spot in the Final round as she cinched a check for $27,000. A 13.49-second run in Jackson cinched Winkelman a second-place check for $4,915 at the Dixie National, bringing her total earnings to $46,425.

8. Sissy Winn, $44,919

Sissy Winn currently holds the No. 6 spot in the WPRA World Standings with earnings totaling $44,919. She kicked off her Texas Swing by securing second place at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, earning $18,000 behind Sara Winkelman. Winn’s notable victory came in Clovis, California, where she claimed the No. 1 spot with a run of 16.56 seconds, earning $7,521.

9. Shelley Morgan, $40,896

A check for $4,765 picked up at the Sanhills Stock Show and Rodeo kick started Shelley Morgan’s season in early January. Shelley remained steady as she added $7,000 to her earnings at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo as she advanced through to the Semifinals. In the final rodeo of the Texas Swing, Morgan secured a fourth-place finish in the Average with 44.55 seconds on three head, collecting $10,835.

10. Emily Beisel, $40,619

Sitting No. 10 in the World Emily Beisel is on the path to securing her sixth National Final Rodeo qualification. Beisel claimed the No. 4 spot in the Finals at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo with a time of 13.84 seconds to add $10,500 to her earnings. Beisel’s momentum continued at the Dixie National where she locked in a 13.45-second run to secure a check for $6,144. The cowgirl’s most recent victory took place in Logandale at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo where she stopped the clock in 17.17 seconds to take home $8,452.

11. Hailey Kinsel, $39,241

World Champion Hailey Kinsel accumulated just over $11,000 at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo as she tied for the top spot this January and has continued to position herself inside the Top 15 as she sits No. 11 in the World Standings. As she secured third place at the Fort worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Kinsel added $14,000 to her earnings.

12. Tiany Schuster, $34,718

Tiany Schuster has collected multiple first place checks including the Bell County PRCA Rodeo, Nacodgoches Pro Rodeo and the Atoka Pro Rodeo. Most notably, Schuster secured a second place check at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo as she secured the No. 1 spot in the Final Round, turning in an aggregate time of 44.35 to add just under $15,200 to her earnings as she now sits No. 12 in the World Standings.

13. Jymmy Kay Cox, $33,712

Jymmy Kay Cox collected over $6,000 at the San Antonio Qualifier alone and has continued to pick up checks this season including first place prizes at the Angelina Benefit Rodeo and the Henderson County First Responders PRCA Rodeo. Cox has acquired $33,712 in earnings as she sits inside the Top 15 in the WPRA World Standings.

14. Paige Jones, $31,658

Paige Jones is fresh off of her first National Finals Rodeo and has hit the ground running as she sits insdie the Top 15. Jones finished out in the No. 3 spot at RodeoHouston with a 14.71-second run to secure a check for a total of $16,250. As she advanced to the Semifinals at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Jones picked up a check for $4,500. With the money earned from participating in the Red-Bluff Roundup and Clovis Rodeo, Jones’ total earnings amount to $31,658.

15. Taylor Carver, $31,565

Taylor Carver earned over $9,400 at the Southeastern Circuit Finals in November where she secured second in the Average and has kept her momentum up as she sits No. 15 in the World Standings. Carver has picked up multiple checks in Florida at the Silver Spurs Rodeo and the Brighton Field Day Festival. Carver finished out Rodeo Austin on the leaderboard at No. 8 in the Average to add $2,815 to her earnings. Carver now sits in the last position inside the Top 15 with $31,565.

16. Preslie Reid, $31,565

Preslie Reid qualified for the Finals at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo where she added $8,000 to her earnings. Reid then picked up a check for $6,000 at RodeoHouston as she advanced into the Wildcard Round. A 17.40-second run at the Walker County Fair and Rodeo locked Reid into the No. 1 spot in Hunstville. Reid now sits just outside the Top 15 with $31,565 in earnings.

17. Jessica Routier, $29,085

Jessica Routier qualified for the San Antonio stock Show and Rodeo Finals as she collected $8,000 in earnings. Routier continued on through the Texas Swing and secured a check for $4,500 at RodeoHouston just before locking in second-place at Rodeo Austin with an aggregate time of 46.19 seconds on three head to add $11,385 to her earnings, bringing her total to just over $29,000 as she sits No. 17 in the World Standings.

18. Megan McLoud-Sprague, $28,785

Megan McLoed-Sprague cinched a check for $11,500 at RodeoHouston as she placed fourth in the Championship Shootout Round. Sprague is now sitting No. 18 in the World after picking up additional checks at the High Desert Stampede and the Red-Bluff Roundup.

19. Ilyssa Riley, $27,939

Ilyssa Riley qualified for her first National Finals Rodeo in 2023 and has positioned herself just outside of the Top 15. As Riley locked in the No. 4 spot at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the cowgirl pulled a check for $7,000. Riley then tied for fifth at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, secured a check for $3,252.

20. Stevi Hillman, $27,827

Eight-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier Stevie Hillman claims the final spot in the Top 20 in the WPRA World Standings as she consistently picked up Go-Round checks throughout the Texas Swing including San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and RodeoHouston, making up $16,000 of her total earnings. Hillman sits with $27,827 in total as she heads into summer working to secure a position inside the Top 15.
