Wenda Johnson was barely inside the Top 15 in the World when she hit the road the first weekend of May. Two wins later, she is climbing the standings and earning a WPRA Athlete of the Week title.

Johnson’s first win came in Missouri when she clocked a 15.43 at the American Royal Rodeo in Kansas City. This $3,198 win was hers by three tenths of a second with the likes of Ivy Saebens and Fallon Taylor getting checks behind her.

Oklahoma was the next stop on Johnson’s drive and the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo was just as good to the veteran barrel racer. A time of 17.31 was worth over $5,000 by slim margins as Leslie Smalygo was hot on Johnson’s heels.

The five-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier now sits No. 11 in the WPRA World Standings after a $9,000 weekend of success.
