The last time we saw Summer Kosel come down the alley was at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo in the middle of April. She made her return to the arena in June and has cashed in all three times. Two of those wins came this past weekend making her your WPRA Athlete of the Week.
The first payday came at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo in Nebraska, where she was the defending champion. Kosel was just two tenths of a second from the win, but a 16.79 was good enough to finish fourth. It was a run worth $1,600 and was just the boost of momentum that Kosel needed.
Kosel’s next stop was the Adrian Newtown Rodeo in North Dakota where she claimed the title by two tenths of a second. Her run of 14.54 beat the likes of Lisa Lockhart to cash in on over $2,000 to be her first win of the season.
Kosel has only 10 rodeos under her belt for the 2024 season and is barely inside the Top 50 in the WPRA World Standings.
The Summer Run is where she shines aboard her equine partner, Apollo. The duo has twice broken the arena record in Cheyenne over the last two years.
