Woodward Elks Rodeo: Preview, Format & How to Watch

Over $160,000 is up for grabs this year at the 94th annual Woodward Elks Rodeo in Woodward, Oklahoma. Behind Guymon Pioneer Days, it is the second richest PRCA Rodeo in the Sooner State. Here is a look at the format of the rodeo and what to watch for.

Format

The Woodward Elks Rodeo is a simple format to understand. Athletes across all events are given one opportunity to submit their fastest run or highest-marked ride. The only event with more than one round is steer roping, where cowboys compete in three rounds and the Average winner is crowned champion.

What to Watch For

World No. 1 Bull Rider Creek Young is scheduled to ride on Saturday, which gives him the added benefit of knowing the number to beat from earlier in the rodeo as all events are a one-header. Young currently holds a $20,000 lead over Clayton Sellars in the No. 2 spot.

In the Bareback Riding, World No. 5 Rocker Steiner is set to ride on Friday night alongside Cole Franks, Waylon Bourgeois, and Cooper Filipek. Steiner has already earned over $66,000 this season and a win in Woodward would close the $23,000 gap between him and Leighton Berry, who holds the top spot in the Bareback World Standings.
