Woodward Elks Rodeo: Preview, Format, And What to Watch For

Over $160,000 is up for grabs this year at the 93rd annual Woodward Elks Rodeo in Woodward, Oklahoma. Behind Guymon Pioneer Days, it is the second richest PRCA Rodeo in the Sooner State. Here is a look at the format of the rodeo and what to watch for.

Format

The Woodward Elks Rodeo is a simple format to understand. Athletes across all events are given one opportunity to submit their fastest run or highest-marked ride. The only event with more than one round is steer roping, where cowboys compete in three rounds and the Average winner is crowned champion.

What to Watch For

Performance 1 (June 7)

Bareback Riding is sure to be exciting in the opening round in Woodward. Rocker Steiner, Waylon Bourgeois, Tanner Aus, and Ty Breuer highlight a loaded field. Garrett Shadbolt was set to compete, but was scratched due to injury.

Performance 2 (June 8)

Bull riding features an impressive field of cowboys on Night 2 in Woodward. The field is highlighted by the No. 5 Bull Rider in the PRCA World Standings, Jestyn Woodward. No. 6 Trey Holston and No. 13 Creek Young are also competing Thursday.

Performance 3 (June 9)

There are a pair of team roping teams inside the Top 10 who will be competing on Friday in Woodward. 2022 World Champions Kaleb Driggers and Junior Noguiera are competing alongside No. 10 Header Jake Clay and Kollin VonAhn. Outside of team roping, a pair of exciting rookies are competing in Bareback Riding. No. 2 Resistol Rookie Kade Sonnier and No. 7 Resistol Rookie Ty Pope will look to continue their great seasons.

Performance 4 (June 10)

The final performance of the rodeo features 2022 World Champion Jess Pope in bareback riding. Three-time World Champion Bareback Rider Tim O’Connell also competes on Saturday night in Woodward.
