Tyler Pearson on His Recent Retirement from Professional Rodeo

The 6x NFR Qualifier joins WSR to touch on his decision to retire from steer wrestling.

Earlier this month, it was announced that 2017 World Champion Steer Wrestler Tyler Pearson is retiring from professional rodeo.

Pearson has had a substantial career in steer wrestling, making six trips to the National Finals Rodeo and last season alone, earning over $130,000.

When asked what he is going to miss most about going down the road, Pearson noted the comradery between his fellow steer wrestlers.

“Bull doggers are a very closeknit group of guys, which I’m still very close to a lot of them but you know it’s the one’s you’re not always talking to and when you see them out there rodeoing, it was really special,” Pearson said. “To still stay in touch with those guys though, is going to mean everything. I’ve made some relationships in my career that will never go away and that’ll be the hardest part.”

Although Pearson is taking a step back from the professional ranks, he still plans on spending time in the arena helping his kids and is excited about the opportunity to cheer for them just like they cheered for him all throughout his career.
