Top Ranked Saddle Bronc Rider Sage Newman Strikes Gold in Alaska

The 49th State PRCA Xtreme Broncs event, held at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, showcased a matchup between the world’s best bronc riders and the top bucking horses from The Calgary Stampede. The evening was filled with impressive rides and a total payoff of $20,962.

World No. 1 Sage Newman emerged as the victor, capturing the top spot with an impressive 89-point ride on Borderline Untimely. Newman’s performance earned him a well-deserved prize of $6,289.

“That one I had, I’ve been on before and just a really good horse, she had a great day,” Newman said. “All the Calgary horses they bring here, they were all great. It was a great day of bronc riding.”

The rest of the leaderboard was well-stocked with 2022 NFR qualifiers.

Wyatt Casper claimed the second position with a score of 87.5, taking home $4,821. Reigning World Champion Zeke Thurston secured the third spot with an 86.5-point ride, earning $3,564.

Kade Bruno and Tanner Butner delivered equally impressive performances, resulting in a tie for fourth place, with both riders scoring 86 points and receiving $1,887 each.

Riggin Smith, the only non-NFR qualifier to cash a check, showcased his talent with an 85.5-point ride, securing sixth place and a $1,048 payout.

Chase Brooks and Layton Green tied for seventh place, each scoring 84.5 points, and earning $734 to round things out.
