Top-Ranked Junior Barrel Racer Chloe Hellams Joins WSR

The high school freshman is vying for a WCJR championship in barrel racing in Guthrie, Oklahoma

Chloe Hellams is a high school freshman and currently sitting at the top of the leaderboard in the World Championship Junior Rodeo Barrel Racing Standings as the Finals fast approach.

Hellams is a first generation cowgirl, but she is no stranger to the sport of rodeo. Last year, she competed at the WCJR Finals and she is looking forward to being a veteran in the Lazy E Arena this year.

“I had a really great experience last year,” Hellams said. “I feel like I have a lot more confidence going into this year knowing kind of what to expect and I know where to put my horse.”

Hellams’ main horse, Ace, came down with EPM in March and was unable to run at three high school rodeos this spring. Because of this, she will be riding one of her four-year-old horses at the Finals.

“I’ve really just tried to stay consistent. I have had some rough patches with my team this year, but I just try to keep entering and nominating and that is what has helped me to stay up on that leader board,” she said.

The WCJR Finals will take place at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, July 23-27.
