Tim O’Connell Sets The Tone in Calgary Stampede Bareback Riding

Tim O’Connell was the first cowboy to nod his head at this year’s Calgary Stampede and throughout his Go-Round winning 87-point ride, he could feel the energy.

“It was so high, I saw the draw last night, had an infamous stud from Calgary’s in Shadow Warrior, he said. “I knew with a stud, I was going to be either first or last.”

Under the new format, O’Connell won $7,000 to kickoff Pool A while Clint Laye won $5,500 for second and RC Landingham took home $4,500 for third.

This year at The Calgary Stampede, there are three pools of 10 athletes battling for 12 total Semifinal spot in each event. Those moving onto the Semifinals are determined by total payoff over three rides/runs. Formerly, there were only two pools and each athlete would compete five times.

You can watch O’Connell and the rest of Pool A again on Saturday and Sunday afternoon on The Cowboy Channel and Cowboy Channel+.
