It has been the case for the last several years and it’s still true in 2022, Shane Hanchey will enter the NFR one of the most decorated tie-down ropers in the field.

He has qualified for the Super Bowl of Rodeo 13 consecutive years, winning a World Title and two NFR Average Titles along the way.

Hanchey enters the NFR No. 5 and about $70,000 behind World No. 1 Shad Mayfield. Although he didn’t have a ton of huge wins in 2022, Hanchey stayed consistent all season, using the same formula that has allowed him to finish in the Top 10 every year since 2016.

BIGGEST PAYDAYS

Reno Rodeo, $12,662

Hanchey advanced to the Finals in Reno and finished third in the Average. His second place finish in Round 2 earned him more than $5,000.

FASTEST RUNS

San Angelo Cinch Chute Out, 6.8 Seconds

Right after Shad Mayfield tied one in 6.9 seconds, Hanchey answered with a 6.8 to win the event and take home $7,500 in prize money.

Texas Circuit Finals, 7.4 and 7.5 Seconds

Hanchey turned in two of his best times of the season early on at the Texas Circuit Finals. His 7.4-second run put him second in Round 2 and the 7.5 won him Round 3. He finished second in the Average, a half-second behind Tuf Cooper.

Snake River Stampede, 7.6 Seconds

Hanchey won the Finals with a 7.6-second run and was impressive the entire weekend at the Snake River Stampede. He was 23.7 seconds on three head and finished second in the Average. All of his runs were 8.3 seconds or faster.

Greeley Stampede, 7.6 Seconds

After a 12-second run in Round 1, Hanchey bounced back by winning Round 2 with a 7.6-second run.

NOTABLE WINS

Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo, 8.3 Seconds

At one of the PRCA’s richest one-head rodeos, Hanchey cashed in with an 8.3-second run to win in California by a tenth of a second. The victory paid him more than $9,000. Blane Cox and Adam Gray split second.
