Marty Yates has not only made the NFR nine straight years, but he has also finished in the Top 10 seven times.
The 28-year-old Stephenville native has been as consistent as they come and will enter the NFR No. 9 in 2022. He has four career Top 5 finishes, but has yet to win a Gold Buckle.
BIGGEST PAYDAYS
San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, $13,717
Yates was 7.7 seconds in Round 1 and 8.1 to take second in the Finals which was good enough for fourth in the Average behind NFR qualifiers Tyler Milligan, Tuf Cooper and Ty Harris. Yates left with the third most money of the bunch.
San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, $9,000
Three of Yates’ four runs were 8.1 seconds or faster as he advanced out of the Wild Card to the Semifinals.
Dodge City Roundup, $8,304
Yates placed between fifth and seventh in all three rounds and his steadiness lead to a second place finish in the Average, 1.2 seconds behind Cory Solomon.
FASTEST RUNS
The Calgary Stampede, 7.0 Seconds
Yates took third in Round 4 of Pool B when he clocked at 7 seconds flat at The Stampede. Shad Mayfield and Ty Harris were 6.6 and 6.9 in the round. Yates won $5,500 for placing in two rounds in Calgary.
Cache County Fair and Rodeo, 7.5 Seconds
Yates won nearly $3,000 for his 7.5-second run that placed him third in Logan, Utah.
Buffalo Bill Rodeo, 7.5 Seconds
Yates won Round 1 of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte, Nebraska which paid $1,576. A week earlier, he was 7.9 seconds to win a round a the Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo.
NOTABLE WINS
Moses Lake Roundup, 7.7 Seconds
Ty Harris, Kincade Henry and Chance Oftedahl were all 8.0 seconds or faster, but it was Yates who ultimately won the rodeo. It was his first win in Washington since 2018.
Guymon Pioneer Days, 25.5 Seconds on Three
Similar to the way he roped in Dodge City, Yates was between fourth and seventh all three rounds and won the Average by three tenths.
