The first cowboy out has had plenty of luck in the tie-down roping and none have been better than Haven Meged.
The 2019 World Champion kicked off Round 7 Wednesday with a 6.4-second run to break the arena record at the Thomas & Mack.
It was previously 6.5 shared by Shad Mayfield, Trevor Brazile and Cody Ohl.
“I don’t know if you can’t put that into words,” Meged said of the standing ovation he received. “It’s electric in here, I knew I had a good calf and my horse has been phenomenal.”
The crowd was right back on their feet a moment after Meged’s run, when Mayfield tied one in 6.1 seconds only to have the calf kick free.
“Shad’s always a tough roper and he went 6.1, I was like ‘holy smokes, that didn’t last long,’” Meged said with a smile.
The Go-Round win adds another $30,000+ to his season earnings and keeps him No. 2 in the PRCA World Standings and Projected Finals Standings behind Riley Webb.
Meged also leads the NFR Average at 53.20 seconds on seven.
