The Qualifiers Are Complete For the All American Triple Crown

Jeff Medders is waiting not so patiently for Labor Day Weekend and the All American Futurity.

For the first time since Treacherously in 1993, there is a horse with a chance to win the quarter horse triple crown. This has only been done one time, in 1981, by Special Effort. The trials were this past weekend and the races are set.

Whistle Stop Cafe is the filly that beat all the boys and won the All American Futurity last year. This year she will be making an appearance in the Oaks, which a race for fillies only. Whistle Stop Cafe is nine for nine this year but she will have to work at the All American Oaks to stay undefeated and add to her $2.1 million career earnings.

On the Derby side of things, it is Empressum that stole the show at the Rainbow Derby. He holds the track record for 400 yards at Ruidoso Downs earlier this summer and he has won his last seven races in a row. Empressum has a slight rivalry with Instygator that will be fun to watch at the All American Derby.

The race for two year olds is the All American Futurity where they will run 440 yards. Jess Savin Candy is going to be the horse to watch on Labor Day Weekend. He is the horse that could win the second ever Quarter Horse Triple Crown. It might have been a photo finish at the Rainbow Futurity but Jess Savin Candy has the opportunity to make history.
