The field is set for the 51st Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta. Come October 1-4, the action will start, and the battle is on to see who will become the next Canadian Finals Rodeo Champions.
“I think we’re feeling really good. Last year was our first year in Edmonton, so there was a whole lot of unknowns... We’ve got a year under our belts,” said CPRA CEO Denny Phipps.
With money growing significantly, not just at the Finals but through the regular season, the CPRA is nearing an $8 million payout over its 60 events. In turn the entries are going up and the competition grows as people eye the CFR.
The history continues to grow in rodeo across the border as Bradi Whiteside goes down as the first breakaway roper to hold the No. 1 back number and Zeke Thurston is looking to add another notch in history to his name.
“This will be the first time in CPRA, CFR history that a breakaway roper... This year, Bradi Whiteside, who is also a barrel racer... She had such a dominant season in the breakaway roping, tying in with her barrel racing and she is going in as our back No. 1 and it’s a really fun thing to see,” he said.
The Canadian Finals Rodeo kicks off on October 1 and Champions will be crowned on OCtober 4. Catch it all on the Cowboy Channel.
