Texas Tech University’s Jacob Walters is in Casper, Wyoming at the College National Finals where he placed second in Round 1 after an 8.6-second run. Getting to Casper has been on Walters mind for years and now, the moment is his.
Walters says that he became the competitor he is today after taking the good and the bad and learning from it all.
“They say you never really lose, you learn,” he said.
One constant that will make this trip to Casper just a little bit easier is Walter’s horse, Snickers.
“He’s pretty special. I’ve been riding him since I was eight years old. He’s 18 or 19 this year, I believe and he’s just matched me step for step. He’s just gotten as good as I need him to be, I just trust him everywhere we go,” Walters said.
Horses that special are sometimes once in a lifetime. Walters says his expectations for the bay heading into Casper are for Snickers to just be him.
With four rounds total to run, Walters is a quarter of the way there with a big goal set for his time in Wyoming.
