Tayla Moeykens made a statement in Pendleton, winning the barrel racing title and taking home more than $16,000. The Montana cowgirl moved to No. 11 in the WPRA World Standings, keeping herself in position for a first trip to the National Finals Rodeo.
She’s carried strong momentum through the final stretch of the regular season. In August alone, Moeykens earned $37,000, and she’s carried that run of success into September with over $20,000 in earnings so far this month.
Moeykens credited both the competition and her horse, Lizard, after her Pendleton win.
“I want everyone at their best so I can be at my best because I do think that iron sharpens iron,” she said.
She added that Lizard has grown more comfortable on the grass in Pendleton each year:
“He loves to run here and has improved every season,” she said.
With only two weeks left in the regular season, Moeykens says she’s not letting up. A few more big rodeos remain on the schedule, and she’s looking to close strong as she continues her push to Las Vegas.
