University of West Alabama cowgirl Taycie Matthews won the barrel racing once again at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming on June 15.
After winning at last year’s CNFR, Matthews was hungry for another championship in the Ford Wyoming Center.
“It is hard to describe. I’m just in tears,” she said.
Matthews won the first go-round with a 13.93-second run and came back to win the second round with an even faster run of 13.81 seconds. In the Third Round, she ended up in second with a 19.92-second run. Her impressive 13.66-second run in the Short Round sealed the deal on her second championship at the college finals.
Matthews was atop her four-legged friend, Pop Rocks, in all four rounds of the CNFR. After being out for an injury, the CNFR was Pop Rocks first rodeo to run at in eight months.
“It was very emotional, but she [Pop Rocks] felt like she never missed a beat,” Matthews said. “She tried her hardest and that is all I could ask for.”
