Summer Williams has quickly become a name to watch in breakaway roping. The 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year is currently ranked No. 19 in the breakaway World Standings— and she’s just getting started.
“I’ve honestly just been trying to have fun and take it one rodeo at a time,” she said.
Williams’ game plan is clearly paying off—she picked up some major wins over the weekend. She delivered a sharp 2.2-second run at the Vernal Dinosaur Roundup, then followed it up with an even quicker 2.1 at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days. By the end of the weekend, she had earned over $14,000, marking one of her most profitable stretches yet.
Her horse, Queen, whom she just got in May, has been a game changer for her.
“She gives me a chance to win every single time,” Williams said.
Williams did not plan on ProRodeoing at all. She bought her card with plans to stay close to home and jackpot rodeo. But after praying for clarity about her path, she won over $8,000 that very weekend— now sitting No.19 in the world and on track to qualify for her first NFBR.
