Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo is Missouri’s only NFR Playoff rodeo and the fans in the Show Me State got their money’s worth as a slew of NFR contenders provided plenty of drama.

In the bareback riding, Orin Larsen rode for 88 points in the first performance and set a mark that held up all the way until one of the last outs of the fourth and final performance. Wyatt Denny, who is now in the Top 15 after entering the week No. 17 in the world, was 90 points on Cervi Championship’s Guardian Angel to give him one of his three rodeo wins over the weekend.

In steer wrestling, several cowboys had a chance going into the final performance, but no one could best Riley Duvall, who won the two-head Average with a time of 9.2 seconds.

In team roping Coy Rahlmann/Douglas Rich set the pace at 11.2 seconds on Thursday night after a Round 2 run of 5.2 seconds and it was just barely enough to win the round and the rodeo. Bubba Buckaloo/Joseph Harrison were 11.3 seconds on two and three teams stopped the clock at 5.4 in the Second Round. Rahlmann/Rich walked away with more than $5,000 in prize money.

Saddle bronc riding belonged to nine-time NFR qualifier Wade Sundell as he rode Cervi Championship’s Womanizer to victory. It was the Iowa cowboy’s second win of the season.

Paul David Tierney showed himself to be a talented all-around hand as he was one of two cowboys to place in both rounds in the tie-down roping just two weeks after winning a Semifinal in Cheyenne in team roping. He won Sikeston with an aggregate time of 18.5 seconds. Jesse Hinkle was the other cowboy to get checks in both rounds.

Michelle Darling found herself in the winner’s circle for the second straight weekend in the Midwest. She won Sikeston with time of 16.16 seconds after being named The Cowboy Channel’s Female Athlete of the Week because of her triumph in Dodge City on Aug. 7.

In bull riding, 22-year-old Coy Pollmeier had his highest marked ride of the season, winning the rodeo with 88 points aboard Cervi Championship’s Rawhide.
