There’s a new World Record in the saddle bronc riding, but it’s staying in the family.
Logan Hay was marked 95.5 points on Calgary Stampede’s Xplosive Skies, the Bareback Riding Horse of the Year in 2021, to break the record of 95 points, which had been most recently set by his brother Dawson.
Dawson set the mark at the Hardgrass Bronc Match in Pollockville, Alberta last year and Logan’s record-breaker occurred at the same rodeo.
“I won the long round and in Pollockville, you get to pick the order you get to come in and I knew that was the one I was going to have to take. I had seen her last year and she was the rankest horse I’ve ever seen. That horse is quite the athlete. I have never been on anything like her honestly. She bucks extremely hard,” Logan told ProRodeo.com. “I had never been on the horse and she has only been in the bronc riding three times.”
Other than Dawson Hay, a 95 point ride has occurred two other times in history. Doug Vold did it in 1979 and more recently, Glen O’Neill did it in 1996. Every ride marked 95 or higher in ProRodeo history has come in Canada.
It has been a terrific month for Logan Hay. In addition to the new World Record, he also won the Calgary Stampede on July 17 and is No. 10 in the World Standings, putting him in position for his first NFR after finishing 17th a season ago.
