World’s Oldest Rodeo: Recap and Highlights

The World’s Oldest Rodeo crowned its newest champions. With its payoff totaling around $300,000, cowboys and cowgirls that won in Prescott, won big.

It was three-time World Champion Tim O’Connell that got the win in the bareback riding. An 87.5-point ride on Championship Pro Rodeo’s Boom Boom Girl earned the Iowa cowboy over $6,000 while Lane McGehee and Jess Pope tied for second with a pair of 86-point rides.

TIM O’CONNELL 87.5 PRESCOTT

Timed events are won on a two head average. Timmy Sparing has been on a roll this summer and at Prescott, it did not slow down. He was as consistent as they come making two runs of 5.3 seconds to top the average with 10.6 seconds. Rowdy Parrott laid down the fastest run of the rodeo with a 4.0 and Cody Devers was next with 4.3 seconds.

CODY DEVERS 4.3 PRESCOTT

Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira left as the team roping champions after going 12.9 seconds in the average. They finished second in the first round and fifth in the second round while Cody Snow and Wesley Thorp brought in the fastest time of the rodeo with a 5.7 in the first round.

The saddle bronc riding was a tight race. Wyoming’s Tanner Butner made an 86.5-point ride on Championship Pro Rodeo’s Secret Agent to be the champion. Chase Brooks’ 86-point ride was second while Cash Wilson’s 85.5 was third. It was a tie for fourth with Logan Cook and Sage Newman both going 85.

Richard Newton was 20.5 seconds on two head to win the tie-down roping. A 9.2 got him second in the first round while an 11.3 kept him on the board for Round 2. Garrett Jacobs and Blane Cox made the fastest runs when they both stopped the clock at 9.1 seconds to each win a round.

HAYLN LIDE 17.26 PRESCOTT

Halyn Lide and Cheyenne Hattesen both stayed at the top of their game in Prescott. Hattesen won the first round with a 17.39 to set the pace and a 17.44 put her fifth in the second round. Lide finished second in both rounds getting faster by almost four tenths of a second. The fastest run in Prescott came from Cindy smith in Round 2 with a 17.15.

In the breakaway roping Kayse Mahoney took home the championship with a time of 6.1 seconds on two head. She finished in a tie for third in Round 1 and got the round win in Round 2 and also making the fastest run of the rodeo.

LEVI GRAY 85.5 PRESCOTT

Canyon Bass’ 86-point ride on 4L and Diamond S Rodeo’s Cabo earned him the championship and more than $7,000. Levi Gray’s 85.5 was second and there was a tie for third between Ouncie Mitchell and young gun Lukasey Morris who both went 81.
