Louisiana bareback rider Waylon Bourgeois made a huge leap in the PRCA World Standings when he jumped from 42nd to 30th. He has been placing and pulling checks at almost every rodeo he enters.

He watched his father and uncles ride bareback horses before he tried it himself and fell in love with the sport as a sophomore in high school. He went to McNeese State University and made the college finals and then he bought his permit and entered everything he could to get the experience under his belt.

“Now I feel like I’m ready for big shows, now,” he said.

Bourgeois is in a group of bareback riders that are young, hungry and talented. Not only is No. 30 in the World, but he is also No. 3 in the Resistol Rookie race. He says that the cowboys in his rookie class are going to be hard to beat but he’s excited for this year.

“It would be nice to win Rookie of the Year but I’m just having fun riding bucking horses and I’m going to let the cards fall where they lay,” he said.

With summer run coming up and the Cowboy Channel’s 100 Rodeos in 100 Days, Bourgeois is a name we will get to see often and if he could have his pick, we’d see him on Stevie Knicks.

Don’t miss any of the action and get the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus now.
