WPRA Barrel Racing News and Notes: Meet the 20 Ladies that moved on to Semifinals in San Antonio

All five brackets of barrel racing at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo were packed with competition. The ladies of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association came to San Antonio to win and their equine partners kept it exciting. After all five brackets were complete, the four highest money earners were split into the Semifinals.

There are two Semifinal rounds per event and each round will produce five finalists. Additionally, there will be one wild card competitor who qualifies for the Short Go. The cowboy with the most total money at the end of the rodeo, wins.

Here is a look at the ladies that make up the Semifinals and how they got there.

Sissy Winn $7,000

Winn and her horse Chewy took Bracket 2 by storm. Being the winningest cowgirl of the entire rodeo, Winn was second in Round 1 before she won Round 2 and Round 3. Her fastest time was a 14.14 and she just happened to clock it twice.

Jessica Routier $6,000

Routier and Missy were as consistent as they come as far as placing. The duo finished second in every single round securing her moving on to the Semifinals.

Wenda Johnson $6,000

Johnson and Mac are riding the high of winning and setting records in Fort Worth all the way to San Antonio. They stopped the clock at 14.00 seconds flat in Round 1 of Bracket 5 to win it and they placed second and third in the remaining two brackets.

Jordon Briggs $5,333

The reigning World Champion was the No. 1 lady in Rounds 1 and 3 of Bracket 4 and she split a three way tie for fourth in 2. She moves on to the Semifinals being the highest money earner in her bracket.

Dona Kay Rule $5,000

Rule ran the first sub 14 second run of her bracket when she won Round 2 with a 13.94. She and Valor went on to beat that time in Round 3 with a 13.83 for another win and another pay check of $2,500 for a spot in the Semifinals

Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi $5,000

Pozzi Tonzozzi and her mare, Birdie, are running at what could be considered their hometown rodeo. The pair placed in all three rounds never clocking slower than 14.53 seconds.

Emily Beisel $4,500

Beisel and Chongo smoked the competition in Round 1 of Bracket 3 getting the win with a 14.03 second run on Valentine’s Day. They came back to best that in Round 2 when they clocked a 13.97 to finish second.

Kricket Gintner $4,500

Gintner was a 13.92 in the second round of Bracket 4 to win the round by over one tenth of a second. In Round 3, she finished second and cashed in the right amount to move on to the Semifinals.

Hailey Kinsel $4,000

The three-time World Champion and Sister are back in San Antonio and have given an impressive performance. They have placed in two rounds, their fastest time so far being a 13.98 in the third Round.

Shannon McReynolds $4,000

McReynolds placed in two out of three rounds in Bracket 2. Each time she cashed in $2,000 bringing in enough to get her a spot in the Semifinals.

Cassidy Champlin $3,750

Champlin and her mare Casady laid down a run of 13.94 to kick off Bracket 2 and get the win. She followed it up with a tie in Round 2 for third and locked in a spot in the Semifinals.

Paige Jones $3,600

Jones placed in two of three rounds. She was third in Round 1 and second in Round 3 to be the third highest money earner of a tough bracket of barrel racers.

Ivy Saebens $3,500

Saebens and J-Lo had their best draw of the week in Round 1 and the remarkable duo made it count with a 14.09. They placed again in Round 3 to wrap it up as the second highest money earners of Bracket 1.

Jessie Telford $3,000

The number for Telford’s trip to San Antonio was three. She finished third in Round 1 with a 14.49, third in Round 3 with a 14.21 and that made her the third highest money earner of her bracket.

Jill Wilson $3,000

Wilson and Blue Jean ran a time of 14.41 in Round 1 and 14.27 in Round 2 to finish third in both rounds. The NFR pair finished fourth overall and qualified for the Semifinals.

Lacinda Rose $3,000

Rose finished second in Round 1 of Bracket 3 with a 14.27 before going on to finish fourth in Round 3 with a time of 14.35 seconds and cashing in the $3,000 that earned her a trip to the Semifinals.

Carly Taylor $2,833

Taylor and Diva placed in all three rounds of Bracket 4. They started with a third place finish in Round 1, split a three way tie for fourth in Round 2 and in Round 4 they were fourth with a 14.29.

Cheyenne Wimberley $2,500

Wimberley ran the fastest time of the rodeo this far in Bracket 1 Round 2 when she stopped the clock at 13.87 on Chewy. This is Chewy’s first indoor rodeo with a crowd as great as San Antonio’s and that round win was enough to get them a spot in the Semifinals.

Emma Charleston $2,000

Charleston was up in both barrels and breakaway in San Antonio and she is coming back in both. In barrels, she ran a 14.03 to get a second place finish in Round 2 of Bracket 4.

Molly Otto $2,000

Otto and her horse, Chewy stopped the clock fast enough for a second place finish in the third round of Bracket 5. They cashed in $2,000 and it was enough to earn them another trip at AT&T Center.

Slade Wood’s performance at the Ron Ross Memorial Steer Roping earned him the Timed Event Athlete of the Week Title, topping the Average standings and earning $11,206
